“First the mind must be healed.

Second the body must be made sound.

If the mind is healthy, conforming to a path of integrity,Then the body becomes sturdy of its own accord.”

—  Mikao Usui (1865-1926)

What is Reiki?

“According to the latest scientific discoveries, the universe and everything in it, is made up of vibrations.  We live surrounded by them, in fact, we ourselves are vibrations.  Within the many types that surround us, there has been since time immemorial a high frequency; one that is capable of healing diseases and bringing peace of mind. This vibration is known as Reiki.”

Reiki is a gift from the universe. It is the energy of love, harmony and healing. It resonates with the higher levels of human consciousness and guides us towards health and happiness.  The technique in which we use Reiki energy to make our lives peaceful, fruitful, and meaningful is called Reiki Ho.  Thus, Reiki Ho begins with healing through the laying on of hands. Its goal is to raise our vibratory level to avoid resonating with negative energies such as illness, worry, anxiety, and anger.“

The Reiki Method

“The Reiki method is not only to cure diseases. Its true purpose is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual abilities with which human beings were endowed from birth.”

~ From the memorial stone of Mikao Usui, founder of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Healing System~

What we know today worldwide as "Reiki" is a healing method created by Mikao Usui, a native of Japan.

Its original name was Shin Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho, Improvement of Mind and Body, Usui Reiki Ryoho. It was born from the desire to share with humanity a tool for integral healing and personal development so that we can recover our well-being at all levels.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.

Reiki Principles

During a meditation several years after developing Reiki, Mikao Usui decided to add the Reiki principles to the practice of Reiki. These principles were developed to add spiritual balance to Usui Reiki. Their purpose is to help people realize that healing the spirit by consciously deciding to improve oneself is a necessary part of the Reiki healing experience. In order for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, the client must accept responsibility for her or his healing and take an active part in it. Therefore, the Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of the Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself in order for it to be a complete system. The principles are both guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practice for their inherent value.
